Overview
The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) licenses producers and adjusters entirely online through NIPR — paper applications aren't accepted. Oklahoma is one of the states that doesn't require or regulate prelicensing education for any line of authority; passing the PSI exam is the only academic hurdle. Licenses run on a two-year cycle and expire on the last day of the licensee's birth month, regardless of when the license was issued. OID also runs a distinct 15-day appointment-filing deadline tied to contract execution rather than first sale.
How to get licensed
Study for the exam
Oklahoma doesn't require or regulate prelicensing education for any line of authority, so there's no mandated course to complete first. Most candidates still study from the Candidate Information Bulletin or a prep provider before sitting for the exam.
Register for and pass the licensing exam
Oklahoma uses PSI as its exam vendor. Schedule online or by calling 1-833-333-4754; allow about three weeks to get a seat, and about three business days after passing before your results clear for the application.
Apply for your license
The fastest path is to apply through InsureTrek — we file your Oklahoma application for the state's fee, pulled from NIPR at the moment of application (the state's $60 resident fee for a general lines producer license). OID doesn't accept paper applications. First-time applicants also upload a color copy of their driver's license or state ID; the application holds for 7 days if that document is missing.
Wait for OID review
OID reviews the application and emails you about approval or any additional information it needs. Check status anytime with the licensee lookup.
Print your license
Oklahoma doesn't mail licenses. Once issued, view and print yours through the NAIC SBS lookup.
Prelicensing education
Not required. Oklahoma does not require or regulate prelicensing education for any line of authority. Passing the PSI exam is the only requirement before applying.

Renewal & CE
Renewal window — Licenses expire on the last day of the licensee's birth month; renew online starting about 90 days before expiration.
Grace period: A license expired less than one year can be reactivated by filing a new initial application at double the standard license fee, with no exam retake. Resident licensees must clear CE compliance first.
Most resident producers need 24 hours per two-year cycle: 3 ethics, 2 legislative update, and 19 general. Up to 6 hours completed beyond the requirement carry forward to your next cycle. Producers who sell annuities must complete Annuity Best Interest training under OAC 365:25-17-7.1, which counts toward the 19 general hours.
24 total CE hours per renewal term, including 3 ethics hours.
Non-resident producers meet Oklahoma's CE requirement by satisfying their resident state's CE rules, if that state has any.
| Line | Hours | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title | 16 | 2 ethics hours, 2 legislative update hours, 12 general hours. |
| Adjuster | 24 | 3 ethics hours, 2 legislative update hours, 19 general hours — same split as producers. |
For agencies and non-residents
Agencies, appointments & DRLP
Oklahoma requires a separate agency (business entity) license. Every agency must name at least one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer holding an active Oklahoma license matching the entity's license type and lines of authority. Resident agencies must be organized under Oklahoma law — corporations, LLCs, LLPs, or partnerships, but not sole proprietorships — and submit certified Articles of Organization or Incorporation along with a $20 articles-review fee on top of the $60 general producer entity fee. Non-resident agencies pay $100 plus $20 for Designation of Service of Process and $20 for paperwork review.
Insurers must file an appointment notice with OID within 15 days of executing an agent contract, under 36 O.S. § 1435.15(B). Oklahoma draws a distinction between a "producer," who only solicits and submits underwriting information, and an "agent," who receives contractual authority to act on the insurer's behalf — an appointment filing is required only for the latter.
Appointments — Deadlines: 15 days from the date the agent contract is executed; not a just-in-time rule tied to first sale.

Non-residents
Oklahoma is a reciprocal state. Non-residents apply through InsureTrek the same way as residents, but pay a higher fee — $100 for a general producer license versus $60 for residents — plus a $20 Designation for Service of Process fee on a first-time application. You can't hold an active resident license in another state while your Oklahoma application is pending, and applicants are exempt from retaking the exam if they apply within 90 days of canceling their prior state's license.
Apply for a non-resident Oklahoma license through InsureTrek, plus the state fee.

FAQs
How much does it cost to get an insurance license in Oklahoma?
OID charges $60 for a resident general lines producer license and $100 for a non-resident one, both biennial. Limited lines run $40, and surplus lines brokers pay $100. On top of that you'll pay PSI's exam fee, which OID doesn't publish itself, so check current pricing when you register.
Do I need to take a prelicensing course before the Oklahoma exam?
No. Oklahoma is one of the few states that doesn't require or regulate prelicensing education for any line of authority. You can go straight to scheduling the PSI exam.
Where do I take the Oklahoma insurance licensing exam?
Oklahoma uses PSI as its exam vendor. Register at test-takers.psiexams.com/okins or by calling 1-833-333-4754, and allow about three weeks to get a seat.
How do I look up or verify an Oklahoma insurance license?
Use OID's licensee lookup at oid.ok.gov/licensing-and-education/licensee-look-up, or the NAIC's SBS lookup to view and print an issued license.
How long does it take to get licensed in Oklahoma?
Allow about three business days after passing the exam before you can apply, plus OID's review time once your application is in. OID doesn't publish a firm review-time commitment, and your total timeline also depends on how quickly you can schedule the PSI exam.
Can I get an Oklahoma non-resident license without retaking the exam?
Yes, if you apply within 90 days of canceling your prior state's license. You'll pay the non-resident fee — $100 for a general producer license — plus a $20 Designation for Service of Process fee the first time you apply.
How much continuing education do I need, and how often do I renew?
Oklahoma licenses run on a two-year cycle and expire on the last day of your birth month. Most producers need 24 CE hours per cycle — 3 ethics, 2 legislative update, 19 general. Title producers need 16 hours; up to 6 extra hours carry forward to your next cycle.
What happens if my Oklahoma license expires?
You have up to one year to reactivate it by filing a new initial application, no exam required, but OID charges double the standard license fee. Residents must clear CE compliance first.
