Overview
Nevada licenses producers and adjusters through the Nevada Division of Insurance, with applications and appointments filed electronically rather than through a state portal. Licenses run on a 3-year cycle instead of the more common 2-year pattern. Nevada folded its old Fraternal Agent and Associate Adjuster categories into the standard Producer and Adjuster license types effective January 1, 2020, and now licenses adjusters directly rather than relying on other states' credentials.
How to get licensed
Complete prelicensing education
Nevada requires 15 classroom hours of prelicensing instruction per major line (Life, Accident & Health, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines) under NAC 683A.221. The Division no longer requires course completions to be reported to it, except for the Bail line.
Register for and pass the licensing exam
Nevada uses Pearson VUE as its exam vendor.
Submit fingerprints
Nevada prefers LiveScan fingerprints from an approved Nevada vendor; ink cards are accepted only if you're out of state or a LiveScan submission comes back poor quality. Submit your application first, then use the Fingerprint Authorization Form the Division emails you. As of January 26, 2026, that form must include the confirmation or transaction number from your application. Budget about three weeks for the Nevada Department of Public Safety to process the background report.

Fingerprinting
Required. Nevada doesn't use one statewide vendor; the Division publishes a list of approved LiveScan providers across the state, each pricing its own service independently. Ink cards are accepted only for out-of-state applicants or a failed LiveScan capture. Background reports take about three weeks to process.

Renewal & CE
Renewal window — Nevada renews on a fixed cycle-anniversary date, not a birth month: the license expires the last day of the month three years after the month it was issued, and each later renewal follows the same three-year pattern from the prior renewal month (NRS 683A.261(10)).
Grace period: You can renew up to 30 days after the renewal date, but you'll owe a 50% penalty on top of the renewal fee (NRS 683A.261(3)). The license expires if no renewal request arrives by that 30-day mark (NRS 683A.261(4)). Within 12 months after the renewal date, you can still reinstate without retaking the exam by completing your CE and paying a penalty of double the renewal fee (NRS 683A.261(6)).
Nevada renews producer licenses on a 3-year cycle. The Division did not have a renewal-window page live for us to confirm the exact pattern at last check, so confirm your expiration date before you renew.

For agencies and non-residents
Agencies, appointments & DRLP
Nevada requires a separate business entity license for $185 for a Producer Firm, Independent Adjuster, or Public Adjuster entity ($138 for a Motor Club Agency). Producer Firms, Independent Adjusters, and Public Adjusters must each name at least one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) who holds a matching active Nevada license, resident or non-resident, under NRS 683A.251(2)(b); a firm can use multiple DRLPs together to cover its full range of business. Surplus Lines Broker and Motor Club Agency entities don't require a DRLP. Associating a DRLP costs an additional $50, and amendments to a business entity filing are $50.
Insurers appoint producers as their agents under NRS 683A.321, filed electronically for a $15 fee (NRS 680B). Appointments are not permanent — insurers renew each one annually.
Appointments — Just-in-time appointments: Just-in-time: an insurer must file the notice of appointment within 15 days after the agency contract is executed or the producer's first application is submitted, whichever comes first (NRS 683A.321(2)). Deadlines: An insurer that terminates a producer must notify the Commissioner within 30 days of the termination's effective date (NRS 683A.331(1)) and mail the producer a copy of that notice within 15 days after notifying the Commissioner (NRS 683A.331(3)); certified mail is required when the termination cites disciplinary grounds under NRS 683A.451.

Non-residents
Non-residents apply through InsureTrek for the same $185 state fee as residents, plus a $50 amendment fee if changes are needed after submission. Applicants must be 18 or older, show five years of unbroken employment history, and provide a business address — a PO box isn't accepted. You can't hold a Nevada resident license at the same time as a non-resident one. One Nevada-specific quirk: residents of California who hold a California Motor Club license can't be licensed as a Motor Club agent in Nevada, due to a reciprocity restriction.
